Are you prepared for disaster?

When disaster strikes there’s no time to step back from the situation and assess how best to deal with it. Libraries and other cultural institutions in Queensland and New Zealand have dealt with devastating flooding and earthquakes in the past 12 months. These have had immediate and long-term challenges and unforeseen consequences.
One of the hard lessons learned by library, archives and museums sectors in the wake of these disasters is that we need to better prepare ourselves, our buildings and our collections so that we can be ready if and when disaster strikes. In recognition of this, National and State Libraries Australasia and the State Library of Queensland are presenting a disaster preparedness seminar in Brisbane on 21 March 2012.
The full-day event features speakers from State Library of Queensland, National Library of New Zealand, National Library of Australia, State Library of Victoria, Queensland Police, Queensland University of Technology, Christchurch Art Gallery and Cardwell Historical Society, talking about their experiences of disaster and offering lessons learned in disaster preparedness.
